Barton High School - Important Information
Thu Sep 16, 2021 9:22 pm
PLAYERS' MANUAL
- The Basics:
- Welcome to Persona: Aria in B-Minor. This post will serve as a repository of information on how to participate in this RP.
The first thing to know is that this RP won't be told in a single thread. For ease of access and to keep things moving along, we'll have a few.
The Story thread will be where the main events take place - important days, plot-related events, and exploration of the Courts will take place here. This is probably the one outside readers will want to follow along with, and it's where we'll probably spend a lot of our early days with the RP.
The Actions thread won't be a home for prose - it'll be where you choose what you want to do with your Free Time. During School Hours, I'll post brief summaries of that day's classes. During other periods, simply post what you'd like to do with your time. If the action you're taking is taking us to a new area or introducing a new character, we'll probably jump to the Story thread. Or if you're pursuing a Social Link, we'll jump to that thread to RP it out. This is also the thread in which you'll post your Lesson Plans.
You'll each have a dedicated Social Links thread where you can roleplay your interactions with the various friends and enemies you'll make along the way. The game won't pause for long and wait for these interactions to play out - the idea is to allow them to happen asynchronously, where needed, to keep things moving quick.
Finally, there will be a Free Writing thread open for... anything, really. Drabbles, little interactions, descriptions of classes or club meetings that aren't story events - this is your place to drop whatever you feel like writing about your character. There's no pressure to keep things chronological here either - feel free to flash back as long as you make that clear.
- Using Your Time:
- Each weekday is divided into three sections - School Hours, After School, and Evening. During School Hours you'll do your teaching, obviously. During After School you can pursue school-based Social Links, tutor students, or participate in the Clubs you're advising. And during the Evening you can explore the town, pursue other Social Links, or simply enjoy a quiet evening at home.
Weekends are divided into only two sections - Daytime, and Evening. Weekends are when the school is closed, but it's when the realm of unreality is very much open - you'll be able to access the Courts on weekends. You'll have to come to an agreement as a team before heading in - no solo jaunts!
It should go without saying that in-RP days and weeks will not correspond to real-life ones. We've all got lives to live, so this thing will move at the pace it needs to - I don't really want to have to put up posting deadlines unless it becomes absolutely necessary.
- Teaching:
- Your day job. Maybe it's your passion, maybe it's a paycheck, maybe it's something in-between. Whatever the case may be, here's how to do it well.
- Managing Your Students:
- The most important part of teaching is ensuring each student gets the attention they need. Every student is a little different - some will breeze through classes easily, while others may struggle to keep up. Try to get a feel for what different students respond to.
- Planning Your Week:
- At some point before the beginning of each week, you'll need to spend a period of your Free Time drafting a Lesson Plan. This will serve as the blueprint for the lessons you'll teach that week. You'll need to do two things to fill it out.
Choose any class periods that week that you'd like to assign Homework to. It's completely up to you how often you assign it. More on how Homework works below.
For each class period and each day of the week, choose from one of the following Lesson Types:
Lecture
Demonstration
Discussion
Project
Quiz
Quizzes are special - see the box below for details.
Each student will respond differently to different Lesson Types. It's important to ensure that you maintain variety, and pay attention to what's working and not's working for your students. You'll also want to be careful not to get too one-note - teaching in the same Lesson Type too many times in a row will have bad results.
On Sunday nights, if you haven't completed a Lesson Plan, you'll be required to do so with your Evening Free Time. You may also choose to submit a blank Lesson Plan - Lesson Types will be assigned randomly, but will never contain Quizzes.
- Homework, Quizzes, and Tests:
- Homework can be assigned to any class period. It will always be due the day after it is assigned. Student's grades will generally reflect their current level of understanding in your subject, but with less accuracy than Quizzes. Hint - try to keep an eye on the flavor text about your students each day, as students who are distracted or stressed about something might hand in Homework that reflects a worse understanding of the subject than they actually have.
Quizzes can be assigned to any class period. You'll receive the results of your quiz the same day students take it. A student's grades on a quiz will reflect their current level of understanding in your subject with a high degree of accuracy. A student doing poorly on a quiz should be a sign that something isn't clicking - it might be a good idea to try prioritizing a different Lesson Type, or to make a point of tutoring them before their next Test.
Tests are regularly scheduled every few weeks, and will always take place on the Friday of that week - you'll receive results on Mondays. Student results on Tests will factor into their final grades, so try to make sure your students are prepared! After all, the wellbeing of your students is your duty, and how you fulfill that duty may have ripple effects in the Courts...
- Tutoring:
- Every day during the After School period, there will be a list of students who are requesting Tutoring. This will take up your Free Time, but will boost the student's understanding in the subject and give you insight into what Lesson Types they respond to. Depending on the student, it may also unlock certain Social Links...
- Clubs:
- You may choose to advise up to two Clubs at the beginning of the RP. You'll need to attend at least one meeting every two weeks, but attending more will benefit you - attending Clubs will raise your Teacher Stats, and some will present opportunities for Social Links. Most days, you won't need to roleplay your Club activities, but you're welcome to do so in the dedicated Free Writing thread whenever you like.
- Teacher Stats:
- Replacing the Social Stats from prior Persona games, these will be vital to your effectiveness as a teacher. Situations will arise during class time that will require certain levels in different Stats to handle well - see to it that you find opportunities to raise them. You may even find that they come in handy in your personal relationships...
Authority
Students call you tough, but fair; acquaintances admire your confidence.
Knowledge
When people ask you a question, it’s because they know you’ve got an answer.
Flexibility
You never know what challenges will be thrown at you - but you’re ready for them all.
Kindness
You know well what difference a little care and attentiveness can mean to your pupils.
Eloquence
You’re a good lecturer in the classroom, and a great conversationalist outside it.
While most Teacher Stats will begin at level 1, each player may now select two Stats to specialize in. You will begin the RP at level 2 in your chosen Stats, and will grow in these Stats at a slightly accelerated rate.
- The Courts:
- The secrets of the Courts have yet to unfurl themselves...
- Social Links:
- Social Links are the real roleplaying meat of this RP - the relationships you form with those around you, which strengthen your spirit and connection with your other self.
Each player has fourteen Social Links. Most of them are unique to them, though there may be some overlap, and some - like Victoria and Robert - will be available to all. The Ace, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, and Page of your Suit will all be non-player characters, while your Knight, Queen, and King Social Links will be the ones you form with your fellow Champions.
Advancing your Social Links is crucial to your effectiveness in the Courts! The strength of Personas you catch in the wild, as well as the ones you can fuse in the Velvet Room, will be directly proportional to your level in their corresponding Social Link. On top of that, completing Social Links will give you useful skills and allow you to fuse Ultimate Personas. Pretty cool, Joker!
