The Info:
=NEW INFO=
[spoilers=Action Economy]In this edition of Raid on Phoenix Hill, you get 3 actions, hard cap, per Turn; a Turn traditionally lasts one week. Attacking is 1 action; Skills can be made up on the spot to suit your needs, and using them is 1 action; if they are reintroduced, moving between Zones will be 1 action; and Abilities will be 1 action; etc, so on and so forth. If it has some impact on the game, it will cost an action to do so. So no, taunting is not a free action - sorry!
The Stats:
Each Stat has a specific purpose.

  • Strength - Increases your Melee and Brute damage.
  • Skill - Increases your Ranged and Finesse damage.
  • Spirit - Increases your Magic and Arcane damage.
  • Evasion - Increases your chance to dodge enemy attacks, at a 1 Evasion to 1% ratio.
  • Ability - Increases your chance to hit enemies with attacks, at a 1 Ability to 1% ratio.
  • Toughness - Decreases physical damage taken at a 1 Toughness to 1 damage ratio.
  • Resistance - Decreases magical damage taken at a 1 Resistance to 1 damage ratio.
  • Luck - Increases your Critical Hit chance at a 1 Luck to 1% ratio.

The Weapon Deets:
So, you saw mention of Finesse weapons. Here's how Weaponry works in RoPH III...

Each weapon is divided in to one of three main categories: Melee, Ranged, Magic. This decides the first 50% of your damage formula - Melee is Strength, Ranged is Skill, and Magic is Spirit. However, after that, there's three subtypes, applied one per weapon: Brute, Finesse, and Arcane. They do the same thing in the same order - so a Brute Melee weapon deals damage based on 50% Strength, plus another 50% Strength - effectively, 100% Strength. You might lose a point during uneven division, but that's it. However, a Finesse Melee weapon deals damage based on 50% Strength, 50% Skill.

Here's how the weapons line up:

=Melee-base Weapons=
Club - Brute. Base Hit: 60%.
Saber - Arcane. Base Hit: 70%
Knife - Finesse. Base Hit: 80%

=Ranged-base Weapons=
Crossbow - Brute. Base Hit: 60%
Bow - Arcane. Base Hit: 70%
Rifle - Finesse. Base Hit: 80%

=Magic-base Weapons=
Rod - Arcane. Base Hit: 60%
Tome - Brute. Base Hit: 70%
Wand - Finesse. Base Hit: 80%
Skills:
Skills can be executed at any time by saying what you are trying to do. I will work out an appropriate formula for them and, if I cannot reach a simple conclusion on my own, I will compromise with you, the player, to get you a similar desired effect. Skills are not bound by Energy costs, Class or Race choice, Level, or Gamerunner planning. Whatever fancy attack or support skills you use? That's entirely up to you.

The Armor Deets:
This is really simple. There's five armor types, and they all offer different levels of Protection and Order changes. Here's how they stack up:

=Minimal=
Order +50%, but Protection -50%.

=Light=
Order +25%, but Protection -25%.

=Medium=
Order & Protection unaffected.

=Heavy=
Order -25%, but Protection +25%.

=Super=
Order -50%, but Protection +50%
Charms:
Lastly, there's Charms. You get one of these, and they handily boost a Stat of your choice, aside from Health. All Stats in question will be boosted by 25%, aside from Order which gets +15%, and then they will get Upgrade/10 percent added to that per level. Since Charms start out at +1, you get 1/10=10% added right away, stacking up to +35% for regular stats, and +25% for Order. Nifty, huh?

COMMANDER DARK LORD SKYE:

"UNDER THE COMMAND OF THE DARK LORD, SKYE, THERE MAY ONLY BE ONE SUPREME EVIL IN THIS WORLD -- SURRENDER! SHOULD YOU BE WORTHY, I MAY LET YOU ENJOY LIVING IN THIS WORLD OF LIGHT... FOR HOWEVER LONG IT MAY YET PERSIST."

In the mystical, far off land of Harkbell, two brothers battled endlessly in a clash of ideals for the fate of their land... As the true heir to the throne, Skye Lunalight- The First Justice- ruled that if he were to become the Singular Lord of All Evil-- then vanish forever-- then his kingdom would be spared its dark end... Taking on the mantle of Dark Lord, the First Justice marches solemnly over the horizon to make all evil bend before him... and save the future of his kingdom!

Yam:

Once upon a time, seventeen years hence, there was an old, wedded couple who had never been able to have children. Always having wanted to be mothers, and desiring someone to take care of their farm in their old age, the wives prayed, and prayed, and prayed; they prayed to the God of the Sun, but He did not answer; they prayed to the Goddess of Life, but She did not answer; and they prayed to the Goddess of the Hearth, and She did not answer.

But the God of Death heard them, and He answered, although they did not pray to him; for each year they faithfully offered up to Him a part of their harvest, and because they used tales of His cunning to frighten young troublemakers, and because their lips mumbled His name more than any other as the days they had already lived began to outnumber the ones which remained.

One day, in the time just before the Spring, at the end of a harsh Winter, a stranger came to their house. Because the Book of All Things says, "You should treat a stranger with dignity," they let Him inside;and because the Book of All Things says, "You should give food to the hungry," they set their table for Him, although they had little to eat. And even though the stranger was rude and did not thank them, and dirtied their floors, and ate enough for three men, when he stood to leave, they gave Him their finest coat and boots, for the Book of All Things says, "You should give comfort to the cold."

After all of this had happened, a Crow crawled out of his mouth, and flew around the room; and the stranger collapsed as if his soul had left his body. And the wives were still, for they knew the God of Death was among them. And He perched on the mantle above their fireplace, and He cawed: "When you gave dignity to that stranger, you gave dignity to Me; when you fed that man, you fed Me; and when you clothed that man, you clothed Me. You did all of these things, even though you did not know that I was hiding in his throat all this time. For this, I will grant your foremost desire." And He disappeared in a cloud of ash, leaving behind only a single seed.

Once the snow had melted, and on the very first day of Spring, the women planted the seed in their garden. Each day for weeks they waited, keeping their lanterns lit each night as they watched. But nothing grew. The season saw rain and sunshine, and they kept the soil well-fertilized, but still nothing grew. But one day, one of the wives said "A-ha!" and dug up a great yam from the earth where they had buried the seed.

"It is only a yam, dear," one wife said.

"It is my precious Yam," corrected the other.

"Perhaps we will eat it, and bear children?" asked one wife.

"No," said the other. "We will not eat it. It is my precious Yam."

So it went; one wife, knowing that the God of Death was the God of Mischief also, worried that they had been fooled, for no sane woman could raise a yam as her child. The other wife would cradle it in her arms and sing it sweet songs. As the year toiled on, and work on their farm grew more and more difficult in their old age, one wife would grow to resent the other for spending less time in the field, feeling that she was not performing her fair share of the labour. And the other wife would grow to resent the one, for attempting to keep her away from her precious Yam.

And so it came that one day, just before the annual harvest festival, a disagreement sprouted up between the two; which grew into an argument; which grew into a fight; which grew into shouting and the spilling of bottled-up anger. For the rule at the harvest festival was to offer up your largest crop to the God of Death; and the giant yam was their largest crop. One wife wanted to eat the yam before the festival, so that they would not have to offer it up; the other knew, and said, that this was expressly forbidden, although she also did not want to offer up her Yam. It came to a head when one wife grabbed a hatchet with which to cut into the yam, and the other shrieked at her in protest; this was when both heard the characteristic cry of a newborn babe.

They each tore into the vegetable with a vigour they had thought had left them in their age, until, weeping tears of joy, they pulled out a mewling infant. One was so shocked at the suddenness of it, she could only choke back the shame at her previously violent intentions; "My precious, sweet, darling baby Yam," crooned the other. And they each cared for and comforted it in turn, long into the darkest hours of the night.

They did not hear Him come in.

He bore the image of a man with a pumpkin for a head, this time; and He said, "Do not thank Me, for all which is sown is someday reaped; she will know freedom for only as long as you both shall live, and then she will become my disciple forevermore. Beware; your remaining days will not be kind to you, old ones, for you have destroyed and denied me the tithe I am owed by sacred writ. But you were kind to me, once, and so I shall tell you this: until three times between you you see a crow pass beneath the fullness of the moon, your time shall not come. Do not try to hide from Me, for I am Death."

Thus concludes the story of Yam's birth.
